Ford is striving to improve the sustainability of their vehicles by using more recycled, renewable, and recyclable materials.
Since 2011, the seat foam on all new Ford vehicles manufactured in North America have been made of soy. This cuts down on carbon dioxide emissions, and reduces oil dependence.
The new Ford F-150 utilizes high-strength aluminum alloy in its body, decreasing weight by 700 pounds. Lighter weight means better fuel economy without compromise.
Seat fabrics in new models are now made with at least 25% recycled materials, such as bottles and recycled yard.
Ford is also in the process of developing a new adhesive material based on the pads of a gecko's foot which could help some vehicle parts easier to break down to be recycled.
