2024 Ford Escape vs. the Competition

Compare the New Ford Escape to Rival Crossovers
As you take trips or run errands in Tyler, you need a new SUV that's versatile enough for any occasion. The new Ford Escape fits the billing and lets you escape reality at the same time. Among compact SUVs, few can match the fuel economy, cargo space, tech features, and safety presence that the new Ford Escape provides. There are even three variants, which rival crossovers can't match. Allow your East Texas Ford dealer to show you how the Ford Escape finishes first among new SUVs when stacked up against the Chevy Equinox and the Honda CR-V. You'll soon find yourself making the trip from Lindale to shop for an Escape at Tyler Ford.

While both five-passenger crossovers provide 104 cubic feet of interior volume, the Ford Escape lets you work with more space on rides from Lindale to Tyler. At 42.4 and 40.7 inches, legroom figures in the Ford Escape top the Chevy Equinox at 40.9 and 39.9 inches, respectively. While max cargo volume figures are similar (65 cubic feet for Escape; 64 cubic feet for Equinox), the Ford Escape gives Tyler drivers access to 38 cubic feet of storage, eight additional cubic feet than what the Chevy Equinox offers.

Performance
At 28 combined miles per gallon, the Chevy Equinox (26/31 mpg; city/highway) is not as fuel-efficient as the Ford Escape (27/34 mpg), which earns 30 combined miles per gallon on trips around Tyler. The Chevy Equinox is missing both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid model. With the Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid's 37 miles of range, you can travel from Lindale to Tyler and back and not burn any fuel.
Only one powertrain is offered by the Chevy Equinox, which outputs 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque through a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Those figures are less than the base Ford Escape model, which has a 181-horsepower 1.5-liter EcoBoost® 3-cylinder engine rated for 190 pound-feet of torque. More power is available for Tyler drivers choosing the Ford Escape's 250-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost® turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 280 pound-feet of torque. Chevy's compact SUV can't compare.
Tech
Both new SUVs offer wireless charging and let Lindale drivers access smartphone apps through wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ integration. The Chevy Equinox has much smaller touchscreens (seven to eight inches), while the Ford Escape lets Lindale motorists access multimedia on a larger 13.2-inch center stack touchscreen. SYNC® 4 within the Ford Escape is more engaging, giving you access to navigation and Enhanced Voice Recognition. These features are missing for the Chevy Equinox, which has a multi-color Driver Information Center display, but it's only 4.2 inches. The Ford Escape provides a better visual on rides on around Tyler with its digital instrument cluster spanning 12.3 inches. Ford Co-Pilot360™ safety features within the Escape are countered by the Equinox's Chevy Safety Assist.

Space
These two-row SUVs match each other with 104 cubic feet of total passenger volume. The Honda CR-V provides 39 cubic feet of storage, and the Ford Escape provides 38 cubic feet, plenty for running errands in Tyler. There's more legroom when Tyler travelers are riding in a new Ford Escape, which provides over 42 inches in the front row and 41 inches in the back. The Honda CR-V matches second-row legroom, but the front row offers 41 inches. Sliding second-row seats within the Ford Escape let Lindale families add six inches of legroom, something Honda's SUV can't offer.

Performance
Both SUVs offer a hybrid model, but Honda is missing a plug-in hybrid and only has two powertrains. There are four powertrains to choose from when buying an Escape at our East Texas Ford dealership in Tyler. Gas-powered Honda CR-V models have a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine rated for 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. The Ford Escape's base engine delivers more torque at 190 pound-feet, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost® turbocharged 4-cylinder engine produces 250 horsepower for a big-time kick. Honda CR-V Hybrids net 204 horsepower, compared to 200 horsepower in the Ford Escape Hybrid. The Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid generates 221 horsepower.
Each new SUV earns 34 highway miles per gallon taking US-69 between Lindale and Tyler. New Ford Escape Hybrids (44/37 mpg) are more fuel-efficient than Honda CR-V Hybrids (43/36 mpg). The Ford Escape's plug-in hybrid powertrain earns 40 miles per gallon in hybrid mode once range is depleted.
Tech
The largest touchscreen within the Honda CR-V is a 9-inch color display, and the standard setup spans seven inches. The digital productivity screen for the Ford Escape is 12.3 inches. Wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ compatibility is offered by the Honda CR-V, but it isn't a standard tech feature like it is with the Ford Escape. Each SUV offers a wireless phone charger and a premium sound system (B&O® for Escape; Bose® for CR-V).
The Multi-Angle Rearview Camera included for the Honda CR-V is similar to the Ford Escape's 360-Degree Camera. While Honda Sensing® safety features are standard, the Blind Spot Information System and Cross-Traffic Monitor aren't included and are add-ons. The Ford Escape watches out for you around Tyler, as the SUV's Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite includes BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert as a standard safety feature.
